Dover Lodge 443: Chapter 567

Volume 1 Issue 4

September-October 2011

Mission Statement

The mission of our Organization is to strive for excellence in four areas:

1. A fraternal program and community service within our Lodge and Chapter system;

2. To provide a family environment and education for children in need and in residence at Mooseheart, Illinois;

3. To provide for the needs of senior members at Moosehaven, Florida; and

4. To promote membership growth and financially strengthen our fraternity.

Message from the Governor

We've all heard the question. What do you do at the Moose? Well over the past 2 months our members have stayed quite busy!  A quick look back and there were 9 nights of bingo, 4 breakfasts, 4 men's meetings, 4 WOTM meetings, 7 Friday night dinners, the 125 club end of season party and 4 125 drawings, the annual fishing trip, a Nascar party, the Academy of Friendship night, the Mooseheart kids visit and our second poker run for the Dover Children's Home. All this in what is typically our "slow" season! And there's no slowing down in the coming months.Bingo is run every Tuesday night (and we can ALWAYS use help for those), Meat bingo makes it comeback on Friday September 9, auditions for the next play will be held on September 10 & 11,Cribbage starts back up on September 12, Star Recorder night is on September 17, The NEMA convention is September 23, 24 & 25, We will be hosting the Supreme Governor on October 6, Our third touch a truck will be on October 15, and the kids and adult Halloween parties are coming up at the end of October. And through it all, the hard work and sweat, the most amazing part is we do everything with 100% volunteerism of our membership.

So come on down and get involved. And the next time someone asks you what we do, make sure they've got a few minutes to listen.

Fraternally Yours

Dan Moynahan

A Big Thank You

To Paul Bowen for loaning the Lodge a moving message display sign that has been placed on the wall behind the bar in the social quarters.

This is a welcome addition to our information system.

Thank you Paul

House Committee Corner

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the House Committee has been forced to raise liquor and beer prices effective September 1, 2011. This decision was not made lightly and has been discussed for many months. To insure the financial stability of our operation most liquor and beer prices will see an increase of twenty five cents.

Murder Mystery

Auditions for our next murder mystery, Circus of the Dead, will be held on Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11. We need actors and there are plenty of you out there! Parts are open to everyone! Check the information center at the Lodge for more info!

Supreme Governor Visit

On Thursday, October 6th Supreme Governor Wesley Crowder will be visiting our Lodge. Read your email blasts, Facebook page and check the information center at the Lodge for more info!

Legion of the Moose

Moose Legion dinners and meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month, with dinner at 6:30 and meeting at 7:30, directly after the Lodge meeting. Not yet a Moose Legionnaire but curious about all the recent buzz about the benefits of taking this second step of Moosedom? You are hereby invited to attend our meeting on Sep. 8 or Oct. 13 to see for yourself. You’ll be glad you did, I guarantee it.

Halloween Hayride

The 2nd annual Halloween Hayride will be held at the Emery Farm in Durham on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 1:00 PM. Bring the kids to enjoy the petting barn, educational corn maze, hayride, pumpkin picking, and holiday refreshments all courtesy of Lodge 443 and Chapter 567. We’ll all meet at 1:00 sharp in front of the petting barn. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 23.

Tuesday Night Bingo

Special thanks go out to ALL of our bingo workers. These folks work tirelessly every Tuesday and are the wheel that makes us turn! But, they can't do it alone. We always need members that can give some time on Tuesday nights.

Mooseheart Kids Visit

Wednesday July 27th we were once again blessed with a visit from the boys at the New England house at Mooseheart. A great dinner of steaks, steamers and corn was served and the time we got to spend with these remarkable young men was priceless. Once again we had a huge turnout of members making this event a huge success. Thank you one and all.

Monday Night Cribbage

The Monday night Cribbage gang will be back at it beginning on September 12 at 6:00 PM. New players are always welcome!

Patriots Tailgate Party

It’s Homecoming Day for the Pats on Sunday, Sep. 18. Join us for a tailgating party beginning at 3:00 PM. Cost is $5 per person, and we’ll be cooking sausage subs, just like the ones at Gillette Stadium, hot dogs, chili, potato salad and chips. Kickoff is at 4:15 against the ever dangerous San Diego Chargers.

Poker Run

On Saturday August 20 our Lodge was once again filled with the sounds of loud pipes and laughter as our second annual Moose Poker Run went off without a hitch. After a scenic 68 mile drive with stops at Lee USA Speedway and the Chop Shop in Seabrook, 40 motorcycles roared into the train station parking lot and their riders were treated to burgers and dogs and tons of raffles. We were able to raise over $1200.00 for the Dover Children's Home. Many thanks go out to the following people: Beth Curry, Josh Curry, Mike Dean, Rhonda Dean, Aaron Dean, Ashley Dean, Ken Wolfe, Keith Wolfe, Joan Wolfe, Nicky Wolfe, Melanie Furlong, Marc Mclean, Diane Ruel, Jeannie Harrod, Debra Galinsky, Al Dotson, Gigi Larsen, Rodney Norton, Chad Alden, Barb Moynahan, Jerry Hansen, Jim Towle, Skip Flint, Jeff Harrod, Bobby Bondo and the Fenderskirts.
