Dover Lodge 443: Chapter 567

November / December 2010

It is absolutely mind boggling to think that 6 months have passed in my term as Governor. While there have been some slight bumps in the road, for the most part it has been smooth sailing. Think of what we have accomplished in these 6 months. We raised over $1000.00 for the Dover Children’s Home with our first annual poker run. We held our second annual touch a truck that netted over $1100.00 for Dover Fire and Police charities. We saw one of our very own be recognized as one of the top 5 shining stars of our entire fraternity. We’ve completely rebuilt our kitchen from top to bottom (a few bumps in that one for sure!) By the time you read this we’ll have completed our third murder mystery and we have exceeded our community service requirements set forth by Moose International once again. Through it all, the most impressive part of our doing all these tremendous things is the overwhelming support and involvement that you, our members, continue to give to everything we do. I thank every one of you for proving that “It’s who we are and what we do” is more than a great saying for a sweatshirt, but rather what the Dover Moose Lodge is all about …making our lodge, community and the lives of children and seniors a little bit better one day at a time.

Fraternally Yours,

Dan Moynahan

Children’s Christmas Party

Every year we have a Christmas party for our children and this year is no different.  We would really enjoy as many children as we can get for the party. There will be presents, Pizza and drinks, games, and best of all, Santa Clause! We will put a sign up sheet at the door in the social quarters directly after Thanksgiving. Please be sure to note Boy or Girl, age, and if there is something special your child would like this year for Christmas.

We will try our best to have Santa get what they would like (no guarantees). Please, you really must sign up so we know how many gifts for Santa to bring, we do not want to disappoint any children at Christmas.

The party is December 11th - the fun will begin at 12 noon until 2pm.

Parents please bring your children to see Santa and to see how we transform the hall into Santa’s winter wonderland. It will be loads of fun for all!!!!

It’s that time of year again !!!!

Our annual Penny Sale will be held on Sunday, Dec 5 - doors will open at 1 pm with drawings beginning at 4 PM. What new and exciting treasures will be on our tables this year? Food and drinks will be available for purchase in the newly renovated kitchen.

We do need volunteers for the tables, please, and if anyone would like to make a donation to the food basket or raffle item, we would greatly appreciate it.

Please contact Nancy Flint at 603-742-0652 or Abby Field at 207-337-5652 with questions.

Come on down and join us - we look forward to seeing all of you!

Have a VERY Merry Christmas from the Officers of WOTM #567

New 125 Club

The new 125 club will start on December 2nd.

Plan to attend and remember to get your number.

The Bragdon Cup, named in memory of Jim Bragdon, has stood as our lodge trophy for excellence in sports and gaming…traditionally given to the team that wins the Moose Triathlon, this year it will be presented to the team that wins one event and one only.  The Sports committee has decided to hold luck of the draw cribbage tournament on Saturday, November 27th with registration starting at 11:30 AM in the hall.  This is open to ALL members and qualified guests, so bring a friend (understanding they may not be your partner).  Cost is $5 per person.  Prize money will be awarded as well as the winning team’s names engraved on the Bragdon Cup.  Register in advance at the lodge, or contacting Rocky D’Andrea at rockydandrea@me.com.  Registration limited to the first 100 entries.

The Kitchen is done!!!

After a lengthy uphill battle, the kitchen committee is very happy to report that we are now completely operational! In the past three months we have encountered every obstacle anyone could imagine but with the help of some very dedicated people we were able to overcome them all. HUGE thanks go to the gang that gave their blood, sweat, tears and time to this larger then imagined project. Thank You

Ron Maxfield, Bob Marshall, Dean Doucette, Jamie McEwan, Mike O’Shea, Justin Decker, Amy Moynahan, Rhonda Dean, Rodney Norton, Dennis Greene, Mike Dean, Joe Burns, Jim Towle, Steve Moynahan, Marc McLean, Skip Flint, Arthur McGlone, Rocky D’Andrea, Dolph Toigo, Wally Roy and Kevin Carr.

A small blurb cannot begin to thank Ken Wolfe for the time and effort he put into this project. Without his direction and vision, we would still be looking at bare walls. Ken, THANK YOU! For all you do!

Want to help the children out at Mooseheart

By using the following website “http://www.goodsearch.com”  and selecting “Mooseheart Child City and School” under the heading: ”WHO DO YOU GOODSEARCH FOR” you will be helping them out.  Each time you search the Internet or shop online at one of our participating stores, a donation will be made to Mooseheart - Child City and School at no cost to you!

Ceiling Raffle

Many thanks to everyone that participated in our hall ceiling raffle. Between the 229 tiles we sold and a meat bingo that we held, we raised $1500.00. The net proceeds of $1100.00 will allow us to replace the tiles in the hall at no cost to the Lodge.

Thanks to Gary McGlone for chairing this committee. Great job Gary!

Karaoke Killer

The Dover Moose Players were at it again. Playing to a packed house on both Friday and Saturday nights, the show did go on. Our third production saw over 260 people in attendance to watch an entirely amateur cast “Kill ‘em” with their acting prowess. Between the take at the door, a meat raffle and a special Saturday night “booby” prize (you had to be there to understand that one!), we were able to donate $4000.00 to the Dover Children’s Home. Huge thanks go out to everyone involved, from the cast (who spent over 2 months rehearsing for the show) to the crew (some of who spent over 14 hours each day with set-up and cooking duties).

The Cast:

Debra G., Deb Niles, Deb Nadeau, Stephen Moynahan, Nicky Wolfe, Corey Haigh, Diane Ruel, Rocky D’Andrea, Melanie Furlong and Sherry Bishop. The Crew: Director Bob Boucher, Assistant Director, Katie Makem-Boucher, Lights and Sound, Jerry Hansen.

Our hard working volunteers:

Mike Dean, Skip Flint, Fred Stone,  Rhonda Dean, Tom Bishop, Stephanie Gilpatrick, Barb Moynahan, Theresa Brown, Matt Raymond, Nancy Flint, Jim Towle, Smokey Nadeau, Ray Stackpole, Marc McLean, Jamie Brunelle, Donnie Johnson, Jen Ryan, Dennis Greene, Sean Moynahan, Nick D’Andrea, Stacy Moynahan, Jeannie Harrod, BJ Love, Abby Field, Dolph Toigo, Ashley Dean, Jerry Hansen, Rodney Norton, Rich Ashford, Ken Wolfe and Amy Moynahan.

Special Thanks to:

Jim Wood for letting us use his karaoke equipment!

Touch a Truck

A beautiful October day was the backdrop for our second annual Touch a Truck event. The Lodge parking lot was jam

packed with every type of truck, tractor and emergency vehicle you could imagine along with wall to wall, smiling children and adults.

At the end of the day, we were able to raise over $1000.00 that will be donated to the Dover fire and police charities!

Thanks go out to the following folks for all their help! Zach Fuller, Dennis Ranson, Matt Raymond, BJ Love, Chad

Alden, Amy Alden, Jim Towle, Denise McKenney, Ray Stackpole, Dennis Greene, Sherry Bishop, Gigi Larsen, Smokey Nadeau, Sara Bassett, Kelly Hubbard, Annie McGee, Rhonda Dean, Mike Dean, Aaron Dean, Walker Thornton, Sarah Turchinetz-White, Maddie Satear and Ken Wolfe.
